Less cloud.
More clarity.

TRUNNER.NET exists to make useful software available without making an internet account, remote server, or cloud workflow the center of every task. Your work remains yours. Local-first tools can reduce exposure, but they cannot turn an internet-connected device into an air-gapped system. The detailed terms below explain that boundary honestly.

This is a versioned legal notice, not legal advice to users. Product-specific license terms may add to these terms and control if there is a conflict.
01

Terms of Use

1. Who these terms cover

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Patrick Jamison, operator of TRUNNER.NET (“TRUNNER,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern TRUNNER.NET, its legal and safety materials, and any TRUNNER software that expressly incorporates these Terms, including Task Runner, Graphic Runner, ASCII Runner, and Lan Runner (collectively, the “Runners”).

A Runner may include a separate end-user license agreement, repository license, release notice, or third-party notice (“Product Terms”). Product Terms control for that Runner if they conflict with these website Terms. These Terms do not replace third-party open-source licenses.

2. Acceptance and capacity

When a Runner presents an “I agree,” “Accept,” or equivalent control, selecting it and continuing means you have read and agree to the displayed or linked version of the Terms and Product Terms. Installing, launching, or continuing to use a Runner after receiving conspicuous notice may also constitute acceptance to the extent allowed by applicable law. Merely seeing a link in a footer is not represented as guaranteed consent.

You must be legally capable of entering this agreement. If you use a Runner for an employer, school, organization, or other entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity. The services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. A parent or legal guardian must supervise a minor’s use where required by law.

3. Software and website license

Subject to these Terms and the applicable Product Terms, you receive only the limited license expressly stated for the relevant Runner. No license is implied by public availability, access to a repository, or the ability to download a file. If source code is published without a license, copyright law reserves the rights that have not been expressly granted.

Unless Product Terms expressly allow it, you may not sell, sublicense, rehost, redistribute, rebrand, relabel, counterfeit, or represent a Runner as your own; remove copyright, attribution, safety, or license notices; or reverse engineer or circumvent technical protections except to the extent such restrictions are prohibited by law or an applicable license expressly permits it. You may link to official release pages and share unmodified links.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use the website or a Runner to:

  • break the law or violate another person’s privacy, publicity, intellectual-property, contractual, or other rights;
  • gain unauthorized access to devices, accounts, networks, data, or services;
  • create, deliver, conceal, or coordinate malware, credential theft, destructive code, fraud, phishing, impersonation, counterfeiting, or deception;
  • harass, threaten, exploit, stalk, abuse, discriminate against, or intentionally harm another person;
  • bypass rate limits, safety checks, file validation, authentication, encryption, access controls, or network boundaries;
  • interfere with availability, probe systems outside the Responsible Disclosure Policy, or impose an unreasonable load;
  • use a Runner in a safety-critical, emergency, medical, weapons, nuclear, aviation-control, or other environment where failure could reasonably cause death, injury, or major physical damage; or
  • violate applicable export-control, sanctions, or trade laws.

These restrictions do not prohibit good-faith security research that follows the Responsible Disclosure Policy or activity expressly authorized in writing.

5. Your files, output, and responsibility

As between you and TRUNNER, you retain your rights in files, messages, artwork, task data, and other material you create or process. Local files are not licensed to us merely because a Runner processes them on your device. You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed for your inputs and outputs, for reviewing output before relying on it, and for maintaining backups.

If you voluntarily send feedback, diagnostics, screenshots, or other material to support, you grant us a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that material only to respond, troubleshoot, secure, maintain, and improve the Runners. Do not send secrets or third-party personal data that we do not need.

6. Local-first is a boundary, not a guarantee

“Offline” and “local-first” describe product architecture or an operating mode; they do not guarantee anonymity, perfect isolation, uninterrupted availability, or protection against every attack. Your operating system, browser, device services, router, VPN, firewall, DNS provider, hosting provider, linked websites, or other software may communicate independently.

LAN features can expose a device name, local IP address, public identity information, discovery traffic, or listening ports to devices on the same network. Use trusted private networks, review firewall prompts, end sessions when finished, and do not treat guest or public Wi-Fi as private. Some Runners may offer clearly identified optional online features. Downloads, updates, linked pages, support email, and release verification can require internet access.

7. Beta software and updates

A Runner identified as alpha, beta, preview, experimental, or unsigned is pre-release software. It may contain defects, change without notice, lose compatibility, or produce unexpected output. Verify checksums where published, download only from an official product GitHub Pages website, keep your operating system and browser updated, and never disable platform security merely to run a beta.

We may update, replace, discontinue, or withdraw a Runner. Material changes to legal terms should receive a new version identifier and renewed acceptance where an acceptance screen is used.

8. Third-party services and components

External sites, GitHub, hosting providers, operating systems, package managers, fonts, libraries, and other third-party components are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. Links are provided for convenience and are not a warranty or endorsement. Third-party license notices remain in force and must not be removed.

9. Ownership

The Runners, TRUNNER.NET design, original code, documentation, names, logos, and other original materials are owned by Patrick Jamison or licensed contributors, except for user content and identified third-party material. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. “Open source,” “source available,” “freeware,” and “free to use” are different licensing models; only the applicable written Product Terms determine which applies.

10. Suspension and termination

Your license ends if you materially violate applicable terms. On termination, stop using and distributing affected copies except where an applicable open-source license gives independent rights that cannot be terminated under these Terms. Provisions concerning ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability, responsibility for content, and general terms survive termination.

11. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE WEBSITE AND RUNNERS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, SECURITY, ACCURACY, AVAILABILITY, OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT LOCAL-FIRST FEATURES WILL ISOLATE A DEVICE OR NETWORK, THAT ENCRYPTION OR FILE CHECKS WILL DEFEAT EVERY THREAT, OR THAT DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions. In those places, exclusions apply only to the extent permitted, and mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRUNNER AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL, OPPORTUNITY, OR DATA; BUSINESS INTERRUPTION; OR THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE WEBSITE OR A RUNNER, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. AGGREGATE LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE AFFECTED RUNNER DURING THE PRECEDING TWELVE MONTHS OR US $100.

These limits do not apply where prohibited by law and do not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for intentional misconduct where applicable.

13. Business-use responsibility

If you use a Runner on behalf of a business or organization, that entity will defend and indemnify TRUNNER from third-party claims and reasonable costs caused by the entity’s unlawful use, infringement, violation of another person’s rights, or material breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by TRUNNER’s own misconduct or where this obligation is prohibited by law.

14. General terms

These Terms and applicable Product Terms are the entire agreement concerning their subject matter. If one provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remainder will continue. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign your obligations without written consent; we may assign these Terms with a transfer of the relevant product or business. Mandatory law and non-waivable consumer rights control over any inconsistent provision.

Privacy Notice

1. The short version

The TRUNNER.NET landing page is intentionally static. Its code has no account system, advertising, behavioral analytics, tracking pixel, public form, or connection to the retained Firebase application database. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

2. Information processed when you visit

A hosting provider necessarily receives network request information such as IP address, date and time, requested path, browser or device information, and security logs to deliver and protect the site. That provider may process this information under its own terms. Following an external link sends a request to the destination, such as GitHub or a product page, which has its own privacy practices.

3. Local browser data

A Runner may store preferences, safety acknowledgments, acceptance version, or working data in browser storage on your device. For example, ASCII Runner stores its selected theme and a versioned acceptance record locally. This information is not transmitted to TRUNNER by the hosted code. Clearing browser data removes it.

4. Local files and device features

ASCII Runner validates and decodes selected PNG and JPEG files in the browser and does not provide an upload endpoint. Camera access, when selected, is handled in the browser session. Browser and operating-system permission controls still apply. Other Runners have product-specific notices; do not assume every product has identical data flows merely because it is described as local-first.

5. LAN information

Local-network features can process display names, room identifiers, local IP addresses, device or public-key identifiers, messages, and connection diagnostics between participating devices. Depending on the Runner, information may be stored on those devices. Other people controlling those devices are separate recipients, not TRUNNER’s cloud service. Review the product notice before joining a room and use only networks and peers you trust.

6. Information you choose to send

If you email us or submit feedback through a linked third-party service, we receive the contact information and content you provide. We use it to respond, maintain security, troubleshoot, and improve products. The email or form provider processes that information under its own terms. We retain correspondence only as reasonably necessary for those purposes, legal obligations, and abuse prevention.

7. Disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information you send when necessary to a service provider supporting the requested interaction, to comply with law or valid legal process, to protect users and systems, to investigate abuse, or as part of a business transfer. We request only what is reasonably needed.

8. Security and retention

Data minimization is the primary control: the landing page does not ask for user data. No system is perfectly secure. Keep sensitive information out of support messages unless requested through an appropriate channel. Local files remain your responsibility, including backups, device security, encryption at rest, and deletion.

9. Children

The site and Runners are not directed to children under 13, and the site does not knowingly collect personal information from them through an account or submission feature. Do not send us a child’s personal information. Contact us to request deletion if you believe a child supplied information.

10. Privacy choices and requests

You can clear local browser storage through browser settings, avoid external links, and choose not to email us. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or information about disclosures. Send a request to the contact below. We may need to verify the request and may retain information where law allows or requires it.

11. Changes

Material privacy changes will be identified by a new effective date. We will not silently turn a local-only file workflow into an upload service; such a change would require clear product notice and an updated privacy disclosure before collection.

03

Local-First + Security

What we are trying to build

The goal is straightforward: useful software should remain useful when the internet is unavailable, and local work should not be uploaded merely because a tool can run in a browser. Optional network functions should be understandable, visible, and separable from local workflows.

What local-first does not mean

  • It does not mean the entire device is offline or air-gapped.
  • It does not control operating-system telemetry, browser services, DNS, VPN software, routers, or linked sites.
  • It does not make public or guest Wi-Fi trustworthy.
  • It does not replace endpoint protection, updates, backups, disk encryption, or firewall configuration.
  • It does not make every input safe; file validation reduces risk but is not antivirus software.
  • Encryption protects specified data paths, not every endpoint, screen, log, backup, or compromised device.

Safer operation

  1. Download only from a verified product GitHub Pages website linked by TRUNNER.NET.
  2. Verify published SHA-256 checksums before running unsigned beta packages.
  3. Keep the browser, operating system, firewall, and endpoint protection updated.
  4. Use trusted private networks for LAN rooms; confirm peer names and safety identifiers where available.
  5. Grant only the permissions needed for the feature you selected.
  6. Back up important work and test beta software on noncritical data first.
  7. End hosts and rooms when finished, especially on shared networks.

Product boundaries

ASCII Runner’s hosted build performs image conversion locally in the browser and restricts imports to validated PNG or JPEG data within documented size and dimension limits. Task Runner and Lan Runner can deliberately open local-network connections when you use room features. Graphic Runner is a local desktop graphics tool. Exact behavior, ports, storage, encryption, and optional online features are documented by each product and release.

04

Responsible Disclosure

We welcome good-faith reports that help protect users. Research is authorized only against systems and copies you own or have permission to test, and against TRUNNER.NET to the limited extent described here.

To stay within this policy:

  • avoid privacy violations, persistence, data destruction, service disruption, denial of service, social engineering, spam, and physical testing;
  • do not access, retain, alter, or disclose another person’s data; stop if you encounter it;
  • use the minimum testing necessary to demonstrate the issue;
  • do not demand payment, threaten disclosure, or publicly disclose an unresolved issue before we have a reasonable opportunity to investigate and fix it; and
  • send a clear report with product/version, reproduction steps, impact, and supporting evidence.

If you comply with this policy and act in good faith, we will not initiate legal action against you for the authorized research. This does not authorize testing third-party providers, GitHub, Firebase, other users, or infrastructure we do not own, and it cannot bind third parties.
